Getting Schooled in Florida: Part One

Well, friends, I am currently being educated in Retirement Life. It's a short term intensive elective class, as taught by a set of wild senior citizens (AKA, my American grandparents) and a class size of 1. Yes, peeps, I am living the hard life in la Florida.

But this is not all alcholic-free martinis and tanning salons: I have been learning important lessons about life, love and pedicures. Seriously. Sort of.

Lesson #1: An Education in InFlight Entertainment

I was a jetsetter in my baby years, but as prices have soared (as well as the size of my family) we have flown less. But I successfully flew by myself for the first time, and honestly, it was a blast. I brought copies of Allure and InStyle as vigorous academic instruction, and learned the color of the spring season (gray) and why Halle Berry will not name her child until it is born.

I love looking down at the clouds. It's an absolutely stunning view, a beauty that leaves me touched. We do live in such a beautiful world.

Lesson #2: Home Ec & Health (as Seen in Restaraunts)

I am attempting to eat veggies with every meal. I also went grocery shopping with my grandmother, which was a novel experience because there's only three of us to shop for. I got a lot of Yoplait Whips! that are absolutely divine. The Chocolate Mousse tastes just like the sugarific deal.

I walked today, too, admiring the palm tree-studded mansions for a full half hour.

Lesson #3: Room Management with Single Occupancy

Having my own room is no biggie, but my own bathroom? Are you kidding? I don't know what to do with myself, not having to fight tooth and nail to apply lip gloss. Naps are also a good thing when you have a) soft bed and b) a 4:30 am wake up call that day.

Lesson #4: Cinematic Appreciation with Chris Evans and Russell Crowe

Ah, the classics. I am in the middle of A Good Year with darling bar-hopping Russell Crowe and last night my grandmother and I watched The Nanny Diaries with Scarlett Johanneson. We will also try to watch, this week, In Her Shoes which is partly about grandmothers, grandchildren and Florida. Funny how it is. We also saw A Stranger Among Us and Heart of Dixie.

Lesson #5: Art Appreciation in Nature

This is no joke. I love the beauty here, from the dolphins we saw in the bay to the abundance of crazy green plants everywhere. The weather hasn't been that great, but today it is BEAUTIFUL!

Piccies to come later.
