I am a lover of music.
I play three instruments, if you count voice as an instrument and I do. I love classical-- Bach is probably my favorite. I also like certain contemporary music.
In previous blogs, I have posted about my obsessive love with Lucas Grabeel's rendition of Go the Distance in DisneyMania 5. Like. I. Love. This. Song. This song -- and God -- got me through exam week last June. It breaks my heart and makes me cry and I love it so much.
Another song they played on the bus radio the entire year was Superchick's Stand in the Rain. I can identify a lot with that.
So I'm burning a CD off of my sister's iTunes list, and here is the playlist:
1. Made to Love (tobyMAC)
2. Go the Distance (Lucas Grabeel)
3. Stand in the Rain (Superchick)
4. I'll Make a Man out of You (Mulan)
5. Cinderella (Steven Curtis Chapman)
6. Can You Feel the Love Tonight? (Elton John)
7. Hey There Delilah (Plain White Ts)
8. Irene (TobyMAC)
9. Dive (Steven Curtis Chapman)
10. Over My Head (The Fray)
11. You Give Love a Bad Name (Blake Lewis)
12. When I'm Sixty Four (The Beatles)
13. Love Like This (Natasha Bedingfield)
14. Junk Food Junkie (Larry Groce)
15. Kiss the Girl (Little Mermaid)
16. Live For You (Rachel Lampa)
17. Good for Me (Amy Grant)
18. You're Not Alone (Amy Grant)
19. Fantasia on Greensleeves (Wellspring)
*Disclaimer: I'm in the middle of organizing, so I might trim the Elton John.
This seems like a combination of embarrassingly popular, overtly Disney (... no excuse, except like every major songwriter has written for them) or wacky old, not even trendie-old. I am impeccably mainstream when it comes to music, not a drop of indie blood in me. This is kind of unusual, given the fact that I'm Gabrielle.
What I was looking for in this CD was emotional depth. With the exception of "Junk Food Junkie," there's a depth to all of these songs. Yes, even Natasha Bedingfield. I had to include her. Her brother sang "Dream You Wish For" for Disney (aMAZing) and she wrote my theme song (Unwritten.)
I have some music to listen to.
